Affordable Care Act Upheld (Obamacare)

We posted on Facebook this morning that #SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) surprised us with a ruling upholding the Affordable Care Act, politically referred to as Obamacare. No matter what your political persuasion, more Americans – millions of them – having access to preventive, acute, and long-term healthcare is a good thing.

And we are proud to be Americans today. A more healthy America means more productive Americans. More productive Americans means more goods & services produced. And more goods & services produced means a better economy. And we’ll have to leave it there.

I am obese but trying to be fit (thank you Chris for helping). I follow your blog and saw you straddle the political line so I figured I can chime in.

I did a (jiggly – hey if you can’t laugh at yourself…) happy dance when CNN finally got the ruling correctly out over the airwaves. Why? For a few reasons.

    1. Right now, most states allow insurers to charge women more for insurance than men. The Affordable Care Act will ban this practice in 2014. I am a woman.
    2. It will also prevent insurers from refusing to insure those with pre-existing conditions like asthma. I have asthma since child-hood.
    3. Did you know ”obesity” is often considered a pre-existing condition? Good luck trying to get healthy. You can’t get coverage. In 2014 you can.
