ChrisByrnes.com Quest Protein Bar Chocolate Chip Cookie DoughOur Review

A gluten-free protein bar is always fun to try. There are a gazillion meal replacement bar options for wheat eaters, that aren’t matched equally for us gluten-free’ers. I tried this Quest Nutrition Protein Bar in the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor. Chocolate chip COOKIE DOUGH, people! If you have Celiac like I do, you know what it means to miss cookie dough.

After I opened the wrapper, it smelled chocolaty. It felt thick in my hands, but pliable – like it must be chewy. So I was excited to try it. I’m not a fan of the hard bars. They hurt my teeth.

Plus 21g of protein is awesome. Unfortunately, I did not work out today, so it probably went to waste.

I bit into it.

It was nice and chewy. But bland. I.. actually didn’t taste anything. I took another bite, thinking maybe I ate it too fast. No, same thing. There was no discernible flavor, that was registered by my short-term memory at least. The texture was really nice, though. It wasn’t grainy or gooey, to the point you couldn’t chew it. That can be a common issue with a lot of the GF bars, and many gluten-free breads and baked goods.

I just couldn’t taste anything. But I felt full afterwards. So that was awesome?

I wish I could report more on the flavor profile and how it lingered on my tongue or in my mouth. Yet, I would still eat it again. Does that mean I did taste something, and I liked it? Perhaps it was a flavor my brain didn’t recognize.
