Craving That Orange Chicken From Chinese Takeout

You know what I’m talking about. That delicious orange chicken you get from takeout on a drunk Friday night. You’ve looked long and hard for a similar recipe to try and make at home, but none of them turn out right. The awesome orange glaze that almost gives the chicken a breaded look. Crunching through a just hardened outer crisp on the chicken. Oh, now I’m drooling.

Look no farther, I’ve got just the recipe for you!

I kept the pairing light, adding a side of spinach salad with mushrooms and low-fat ranch!

Spinach is packed with lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids that help fend off macular degeneration, a major cause of blindness in older people. Plus, studies show this green wonder may help reverse some signs of aging. Enjoy!

Orange Chicken Recipe

Prep Time: 5 minutes or less
Total Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes


4 1/2 ounces chicken breast, boneless/skinless, raw
1 teaspoon canola oil
1 tablespoon orange juice
1 teaspoon jam, orange marmalade, low sugar
1/8 teaspoon ginger, ground
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon brown sugar, packed


  • Place chicken breast between two pieces of plastic wrap
  • Flatten to 1/2-inch thickness (take out some of that work week anger!)
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook chicken in oil about 5 minutes or until brown on one side; turn chicken.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients; reduce heat to low.
  • Cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, or until sauce is thickened and chicken is no longer pink inside.
  • Cut chicken into thin slices and spoon sauce over top.

4 tomatoes, cherry
1 1/4 cups spinach, fresh, chopped
1/4 cup mushrooms, sliced
1 1/2 teaspoons salad dressing, ranch, reduced fat
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar


  • Halve tomatoes and toss with spinach and mushrooms.
  • Drizzle with dressing and vinegar.
