New Things to Try

I heard from a fellow PNES suffer that cooking helps them. Not just regular cooking, where you cook dinner with premade things, blah blah blah. Actual, homemade cooking. Cooking that takes hours and requires your entire attention span.

Essentially, I know, you pretty much just have to keep busy, but that’s actually harder for me to do than I realized. I have no job, but I did finish training to become a CNA (certified nursing assistant), and I am currently working to finish that. I also plan on entering nursing school January 2014.

I’ve worked. I had three jobs in the last five years, but I was laid off from two of them. The first one, the entire company ceased operations, so me and several thousand other people were shit out of luck. After about a 9 month stint, I finally found a job that required moving to a new state. I was okay with that. Then a year later, I was laid off from that job, too. Economic difficulties, they stated.

And here I am, 18 months unemployed, training for a new career. I was a journalist of sorts before. Magazine staff writer, online web editor type stuff. I also helped put together educational webcasts. But it wasn’t meant to be. So instead of applying to hundreds of jobs over and over and over, I decided it was time to change my career. So I am. But it takes time, so I need other activities to keep me busy.

Enter in the cooking. And the piano playing. I will throw in some exercise, too. I could stand to lose a few pounds. I’ll still write, as I love to write. That’s why I have this blog. And maybe someday I’ll write that novel of mine.

What do you guys do to help keep you busy? I could use more suggestions, there are 12 hours in a day! 🙂
